Question by AeroMidwest82: Coping with online advertising on multiple websites?
I’m an old HTML guy… been programming since I was a kid.
I just recently acquired about 15 short *.coms of major US cities that I would like to turn into travel portals/info sites.
At present, I am a member of (I think) FIVE different affiliate programs. I have a clickXchange account and several other affialiate accounts that provide me with integrated hotel listings, rental car listings, traveler’s insurance information, et cetera.
Here’s the deal: this is just a “side project” for me (I also work full time), and the sites are not even fully developed yet, and I am already realizing that this is going to be a ton of work.
I do not want these to become “traffic-catcher” pages. I want to turn them into useful travel sites with the possibility of having repeat visitors and MEANINGFUL traffic. I know I can sign up for landing pages, all-in-one programs, et cetera that will turn these basically into “traffic-catcher” sites, but I do not want to do that.

Oh, and since when did we start having to fax or mail W-9 forms in order to receive checks for affiliate sales? This is yet another thing that is adding to my already-lengthy “to-do list.”

I would focus on the content that you are going to provide. An awesome looking site will draw them in initially, but what’s going to hold them is good, quality content. One idea would be to setup a blog on each of the different .coms and update them regularly with relevant, useful content.
